The Maddest Obsession (Made Book 2)

The Maddest Obsession (Made Book 2)

Gianna is the life of any room she walks into. The dresses are figure-hugging, the heels vertiginous, the laughter loud enough to rattle the windows. She mangles idioms cheerfully and eats with zero pretence. Most people take her entirely at face value. What they miss is the quiet terror she's holding at bay behind all that shimmer, one shaky breath at a time. It's a convincing act. Christian Allister nearly sees through it anyway. Christian is two men folded into one. To the world, he's a federal agent with an unblemished record. To the people who know better, he's something colder and considerably more dangerous. He's spent his life running on rigid self-discipline, a fondness for order, and a near-religious attachment to the number three. He has a plan. He's always had a plan. Then Gianna happens to him. She finds him insufferable. He's arrogant, unnervingly perceptive, and radiates the warmth of a marble slab. Yet something between them catches, slow and almost imperceptible at first, until their habit of winding each other up starts to feel suspiciously like anticipation. For Christian, it's more unsettling still. She's impulsive, she's off-limits, and she belongs to someone else. None of which, it turns out, counts for very much. Lori writes romantic tension with real wit, and this pairing has a genuine push-pull energy that rewards patience. It works well as a standalone, though reading The Sweetest Oblivion first will save you a few spoilers from Book 1.
