The Crab With The Golden Claws
Hergé's boy reporter Tintin has earned his place as one of the most recognisable figures in children's illustrated fiction, and this adventure is a particularly significant one. It's the story where Tintin first crosses paths with the magnificently dishevelled Captain Haddock, a meeting that would go on to define the whole series. Together, the unlikely pair find themselves stranded in the scorching Sahara, parched and pursued, after Tintin stumbles into a murky world of counterfeit currency, a dead sailor, and a cargo ship concealing a rather illicit load of opium. The mystery starts small and spirals quickly. Short, punchy chapters keep things moving, whilst the vivid panel work does a great deal of the storytelling on its own. Hergé (born Georges Remi in Brussels in 1907) spent over five decades building this series to 24 volumes, and the quality shows. Suitable for readers aged 8 and upwards, these collectible editions make the perfect introduction for newcomers and a satisfying revisit for long-standing fans. Whether you're drawn to graphic novels, classic mysteries, or historical escapades with a dash of sand and danger, there's plenty here to enjoy. The full series spans destinations from Tibet to the Moon, making it a collection well worth completing.
