She suspects Vecna has found a new target, and she's not the type to sit on that kind of hunch. Fortunately, Robin Buckley is right there with her, quick-witted and equally unwilling to let things slide. Together, they're a formidable pair. The investigation quickly grows into something far larger than either of them anticipated. People across Hawkins are falling ill without explanation. A mysterious figure keeps appearing in Nancy's peripheral vision as she digs deeper. And the gnawing question underneath it all: is any of this actually connected to the Upside Down? Schneiderhan keeps the tension pleasingly tight throughout, capturing the voices of both characters with real affection and wit. It's a story about obsession, loyalty, and the particular stubbornness of someone who refuses to look away. The further Nancy pushes, the stronger Hawkins seems to pull her back. Fans of the series will find this a satisfying, compulsively readable companion to the show.
